Academic and non-teaching staff in the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), Okitipupa have been advised to always relate well with the students of the Institution. The advice was given by the Head, Advancement Centre, OSUSTECH Mr. Enoch Ajayi, during an In-house lecture/training workshop on Advancement Services for OSUSTECH Staff held from 6th-7th March, 2019 in the University premises. Ajayi, dwelling on the importance of relating well with students, emphasised that some of the students are still coming back to give to their Alma mater when they rose to high echelons and become captains of industries. According to him, Advancement Services is not limited to fund raising but include alumni relations and collaboration/partnership. The Head of Advancement noted that fund raising for Institutions is all about institutional marketing stressing that what is marketable about academic institutions like OSUSTECH is acceptable research outputs by its academic staff. He argued that OSUSTECH’s philanthropic potentials are its quality and acceptable research outputs and community service. He observed that though Advancement always spend money, it would at the long run, facilitate and attract better philanthropic patronage, financial support, donations of equipments, buildings and other educational facilities, endowment, scholarships, awards and grants among others for the University’s continuous growth and development. He explained that every member of staff in OSUSTECH can be of assistance to the University in linking and reaching out to donors. Adding, “Those that do this are known in advancement term as Senior Corporate Volunteers”. Ajayi maintained that it is very important that all requests for donations and fundraising efforts in the University, either from units, departments, faculties, union bodies, associations pass through Advancement Centre for proper and professional handling, packaging, co-ordination, documentation, organisation and follow–up. This, he assured, will safeguard the University from unnecessary embarrassment, multiple requests and donor fatigue. He therefore enjoined staff and other stakeholders in the University to always visit the Advancement Centre to ask for Donors/Prospects’ Register in order to avoid duplicity of name and multiple requests from a single donor. Ultimately, Ajayi submitted that since as an Institution, OSUSTECH cannot have it all or do it all alone, there would always be the need for collaboration/partnership with more advanced related institutions and organisations with better influence, facilities and human resources at home and abroad.
Ondo State Governor, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has tasked the Management of Rehoboth Centre for Advanced Technology to ensure a working and mutually productive partnership with OSUSTECH.
